Marlinda, you’re totally right about the tree pole being a great idea. We have one for our current cat and had different ones for our previous cats. All have been well used.
Most of them have also been able to climb onto the house roof. My partner spoiled them by getting a lawn chair and lifting it up so they could step gracefully off the roof and take the chair ‘elevator’ to the ground. It got so that they wouldn’t get down by themselves!

Katie is the most disobedient cat that has ever owned us!
Katie’s tree does have a cubby. It has an entry hole and a top hole. She loves surprising people by laying in there and popping her head out when they come close. That sure startles them. And you can almost see the satisfaction in her eyes.
Katie’s tree also has a ladder and yes she is always using it. She likes laying on it, stretching out and sharpening her claws.
In her case it saves some of the furniture. (But not my waterbed. It has a lovely foamed bottom layer, just right for sinking claws into!)

Wow, 72 inches is very tall for a cat tree! I imagine it would be very ideal for young adults, but not so for young kittens as it may cause height trauma. I’ve seen kittens fall from heights and it wasn’t a good sight.
There seems to be a lot of room for multiple cats in this one. Do you have any cat tree recommendation for a single cat house hold? Mine just turned one and she’s going all over my cupboards.

I saw your article because I have been searching for a Christmas gift for my brothers’ cat. He is not extra large but very strong and quick so things need to be very sturdy. You convinced me that it is very sturdy so I´m not worried about it. But is it possible to add more toys to it without risking the sturdy?

Hey Johann. Great questions. Usually the trees will come with loops on the bottoms side of some platforms where you can attach more cat toys. If not, then you can get those little hooks that drill into wood (like this) and screw them on the underside of your desired platforms.
Doing that will not compromise the structure of the cat tree and your brother will be able to add as much toys to it as he likes! 🙂
I don’t know of any sturdier cat trees that are made out plywood but I do know of some sturdier ones made from solid wood. The one that I would recommend for you to get is this Armarkat Cat Tree Furniture Condo.
It is 72 inches tall and has a lot of platforms for his cat to play on without having to worry about damaging it.

There was a lot of useful information here about the different cat personalities leading to different cat preferences for a tree or a cave setting. I’ve had Maine Coons, Birmans and many tabby cats.
Most were the tree-dwelling type but once in a while they would look for a good ‘cave’ to get in some serious snoozing!

Hey Lauren! Yes, I would recommend that you get a solid wood cat tree for your cats. I recommend this one by Armarkat because it has a lot of platforms for your cats to jump around on but it also has the two condos for those moments when they want a little alone time.
