I have two cats, and both live in the house, but they do their business in my garden. They have destroyed all my sofa with their nails, and I am very pissed off about it.
So I have decided to invest in a cat tree. I really like the Go Pet Club Huge because it has plenty of boxes and it looks very high. I’ve read on how to tell if the tree is stable, and I would like to ask you a question about this.
We have small children at home, so I am a bit afraid that it will fall on someone. I was thinking of attaching it to the wall with something. Are there some attaching points on this cat tree?

Yes, you have several options as far as securing your cat tree. I will do a separate post for this but I’ll cover some choices here real quick.
First of all, some cat trees come with a safety strap. I would NOT trust this with small children running around because the tree will still be shaky. Trust me, you want to make it more secure than this for your kids’ safety but also for your sanity too. (From one mom to another 😉 )
So your next option would be to fasten it to the wall with angle brackets.You’ll screw one end to the wall and one end will screw into the bottom of a couple of platforms that touch the wall. Just make sure that you’re not drilling into a wall that has live wires running through it (I can’t think of the technical name for it), plumbing lines, etc. Its ok if the wall is low baring or foundation because the tree isn’t going to knock the wall down or add too much weight to the wall.
You also have the option to get wall mounted cat climbing structures. There are a few different types and they look very different. But they still blend in with the scenery and furniture of your home. They look sort of like invisible or visible shelving.
They’re really nice too but typically don’t come with features like condos, toys, ropes, scratching posts etc. So to start with, I would suggest fastening the tree to the wall with angle brackets. Just make sure the wall is sturdy too and thick enough. If you’re drilling into flimsy drywall or w/e it won’t stay. But neither would any wall mounted cat tree or decoration.

That’s partly the reason that I created this list was because I was doing my own research too 🙂 I recommend #1 or #3 for your girl. Bengals love to jump high and I think she will love jumping and playing on either one or both.

Try as I may, I’ve never been able to get my cat interested in furniture. I mean, CAT furniture. She LOVES human furniture, and she loves destroying human furniture.
If I had a do-over, I would have introduced these when she was young, so she’d get used to them and save her destructoid tendencies for it. thanks for all the great recommendations!
Hey Penelope. You can try putting some of her favorite treats or toys on her cat tree/furniture. This works just like it does with dogs in that it tells her that it is good for her. She might just be afraid of it or not even know what she’s supposed to do with it.

Just to let you know, I love cats, always have.
There is a picture of me still being very small where I squeeze a big black cat, we both look happy. My Mother told me that whatever I did to cats they never harmed me.
I enjoyed reading your post on all the different type of sturdy cat furniture. When you have a big cat and he or she stretches the post has to be higher than the stretched out cat, like that they exercise.
I am lucky to have a big garden where they can climb trees. Sasha always has breakfast in the kitchen where he used to attack a piece of furniture. I bought him a carton piece and put it in front of the furniture, now he attacks that. As a lot of cats live in apartments nowadays it is good this type of furniture is made for them, like that they can scratch to their heart’s content.

What great information for main coon cat trees! My son has a big cat, not sure what type but no tree, and no real toys that I see. I think it is time for me to get the poor thing a tree for Christmas. I think the cat will be much happier. I am sure this is why the cat destroys everything in their apartment. Sounds like a pretty easy fix!
Oh no! Yeah, it needs toys and trees for sure! You are correct, its no wonder it destroys everything. If it is in the habit of shredding the home, you might need to work with it to retrain it to use the correct furniture but its doable. Its just like breaking any bad habit. Takes time, effort but totally worth it at the end of the day! 🙂
We have two indoor cats that love looking out the windows but they also like to climb. We have three different cat trees in our home in three rooms.
The two tall ones are very sturdy and they need to be because my largest cat is about 20 lbs. He is a big black cat.
I’m not sure what breed but he is a big boy. When he jumps down the tree shakes just enough where it scares me that one of these days it will fall over.
And that same one is starting to get a bit warn and my cats love to scratch. So I wanted to thank you for this list of strong sturdy cat trees.

Thanks for the questions 🙂 When I say towers I mean the legs that reach to the top usually as a single bed. So they stick up the top like a tower.
The faux fur cleans fine. It doesn’t clump up but it does wear pretty faster. I prefer carpet and cats do too.

What a wonderful cat tower. All 6 cats love it, and there is plenty of room for each one of them.
Very well made, and not tippy at all. This is the best purchase that I’ve made in a long time.
The other towers just don’t compare. Even Fluff, our big boy cat can lay near the top, and it stays put.
We have this in our front window, and it is used all the time!

Thank you for those recommendations. I actually got caught out buying something online that looked spectacular, but ended up being so small, that my cats couldn’t fit on it.
It was tall alright, but a really wobbly thing with very little room in between the ladders and bits. It would’ve been perfect for kittens.

We have a very active Bengal female who would love the Cat Tree King’s Kitty Mansion (the first one on the list). I’ll definitely be getting it for her later.
What we have to consider is that we have a rather large Boxer dog who loves to play and wrestle with her and she loves it too, but any beds, houses, or ramps would probably never be used. High stuff is best.
All of these cat trees blow me away. They are all fantastic and I have to talk to my wife and seriously change our cheap one for one of these. Holy cow!

When looking for a cat perch for my Maine coon I just want a larger bed area, not the tallest in the world. Most cat perched have a small bed which assumes you cat is always curled up. Not so. My cats love to stretch in the sunshine but my Dudley tumbled off or catches himself because the perch bed is small. Guess I’ll have to design my own. So disappointed!

I’m looking for a cat tree house for my 2 maine coons. The problem I have is my large maine coon jumps and goes up the tree so fast that he makes it rock. I’m afraid he is going to tip it over. We currently have an Armarkat 74in. I’m not sure what to get.

I understand what you are saying and agree that it is a real concern that the cat tree will tip over. I have a couple of suggestions for you to take a look at.
The best cat trees for Maine coon cats are made by Cat Tree Kings (Cat Specialist in the UK). Their trees are solidly built and won’t budge even while your cats are playing rough.
Since you have multiple Maine coons, I recommend the Cat Empire because it is tall for them to run up and down. Click here to learn more.
The second recommendation that I have for you is also by Cat Tree Kings and might suit your cats a little better. It is a ceiling to floor tower that also includes platforms. They’ve just come out with it and I’ve been meaning to add it to this list but haven’t had the time to.
It can extend up to 96 inches which is a great deal higher than most cat trees. This will allow you to give your cats the maximum amount of space in your home to shoot up and down as quickly as they want without worrying about the tree falling. That’s because it is securely fastened between the ceiling and floor of your house.

The final thing I want to recommend you is installing wall-mounted cat trees. They might seem unsteady but the one’s I’m about to show you are built for multiple Maine coons. Wall-mounted cat trees are also a great way to give your cats that vertical space they need.

After my last spring break with my cousin and his cat I began to like them which led to me planning to get a Maine Coon Cat. This then made me wonder what might be a good cat tree for this breed.
I mean, Maine Coons get huge and I imagine the normal cat trees are not stable enough for one, right? However is this really true, or can you simply get a normal cat tree like for any other cat breed?
The Maine Coon is a very large cat breed, if not the largest. Maine Coon cats can reach weights up to 18 lbs (8.2 kg)+ and lengths of 3 ft (91.4 cm)+ on average so it’s clear that they need the best sturdy cat tree for large catsrather than the ones designed for ‘typically sized’ cats which are half their size.

It is very stable and there is a lot to do for your Maine Coon. There are three lying places and you can easily place toys on the various platforms of this cat tree.
Further, the very big and sturdy poles are perfect for your Maine Coon climbing.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and I hope that you enjoy having a Maine coon. I’m not sure I would recommend one as your first cat since they are pretty high maintanence but they are pretty chill so I don’t think you will have too much trouble.

Hi there, I was so happy to find your article! I have been looking for a cat tree for my 2 Maine Coons for a couple of years now. The last two I purchased pretty much fell apart. Also, my Coons weigh 27lbs each, they are huge. Would the trees you recommend be able to handle cats that size?

I really like #1 Cat Mansion but want to know if level 2 and level 3 can be switched during construction. Would like to keep condo out of reach from our 1 yr old feisty blue heeler.

Thanks for your question. I know what you mean but unfortunately, I do not think the two levels can be switched.
Something like that would probably need to be custom-built because typically the tallest towers have beds since there is less weight on the single pole.
Another option that might work for you is a wall-mounted cat tree. You can click here to learn more about them if you’re not familiar but the one by Catastrophic Creations is really good.

I have been wondering about the availability of these larger cat trees. My wife and I have been thinking of getting Main Coon. My brother-in-law has one and it is awesome! He is so huge!
We have two other cats and have a couple of the regular-sized cat trees and just don’t think they would suffice. I was thinking I would have to build one myself.
I am glad I came across this site, this will save me a lot of time! Some of them are a bit pricey but it is worth every penny if I don’t have to custom build this thing!

As I am watching the video, I am already searching the best cat tree house that would suit Cotton and Cookie – my Mom’s two cats along with Tiger as their regular visitor. Tiger is my sister’s pet cat.
All the 10 cat trees you presented are terrific. But my favorite is Prestige Cat Trees’ Neutral Maine Coon Cat Tower Cat Tree. Those lovely cats just deserve this tree. They no longer need to sit near Mom’s feet while she is in the kitchen. To provide one is care for both mom and the cats.

I love how detailed this list is. You’ve given a thorough account of each cat tree’s features, benefits, and specifications. I grew up with two cats, one lived to be 19! They were both relatively small, but they certainly loved to play and scratch. We went through several cat trees over the years. They just seem to naturally love them.
I don’t currently have a cat, but I absolutely love maine coons. If I ever have a cat again, I’ve always thought I’d want one of those – and I can appreciate how difficult it might be to select a cat tree, given their larger-than-average size. You want it to be of good quality and last a long time, but I hadn’t even considered the safety concerns if it fell over and landed on the cat, a child, or knocked something else over. All very good considerations.
This is definitely the list I’ll be referencing when I need a solid cat tree for my future maine coon friend.

Great Info here. I’ve got a 22-lb Maine Coon who launches himself like a mini lion, so sturdiness is everything. I like the look of both the Prestige Neutral Staggered and the GloBlazer 72″, but which one would you say holds up better on hardwood without sliding or wobbling?

Its solid wood base and broader footprint tend to offer better stability right out of the box. That said, if you go with the GloBlazer 72″, you might want to add non-slip pads or a rubber mat underneath to prevent sliding.
